Passiflora Mosaics Studio
Are you ready to expand your mosaic and sculptural abilities? This technique-learning workshop is a great intro to making 3-dimensional concrete forms for mosaic.
The workshop begins on Friday with “Intro to Working with Concrete”. Through a series of discussions and demonstrations, you will learn about the benefits of using concrete as a building material. You will also be taught a few commonly used concrete mixes and how each apply to various forming techniques that will include rebar and wire mesh, sand casting, and more. You will then make a bowl out of a hypertufa mix as well as other small concrete objects, as time allows.
On Saturday and Sunday you will learn the basic process used to create light weight, weatherproof, mosaic-ready forms out of polystyrene (aka Styrofoam) and concrete. You will learn basic sculpting techniques using hotwire foam tools and how to mix and apply a durable concrete system. There will also be time to discuss any dream projects that you would like to see realized. You will leave with a mosaic ready sculpture along with informative handouts that will enable you to pursue your concrete sculpting goals.
Note: No mosaic will be applied at this workshop. However, after taking this workshop, many have added the mosaic at our mosaic workshop at Passiflora Studio or at the 4-day Camp Ocean Pines retreat.
